Windows 11 Might Warn You If Someone’s Spying on Your Screen

Updated: Oct 6, 2025

Ever felt like someone was watching your screen while you worked in a coffee shop or on a train?

It’s a real concern—especially if you're reading private emails or working on important files. Even if you just like your privacy, it can feel uncomfortable.

Good news: Microsoft may be working on a new feature to help.

It’s called Onlooker Detection, and it’s designed to spot when someone is looking at your screen—and let you know.

This feature builds on something already in Windows called Presence Sensing, which can dim or lock your screen when you walk away and wake it up when you return.

But Onlooker Detection goes even further:

  • If someone is watching your screen, your laptop might automatically dim it or warn you to protect your privacy.

Why is this cool? Because it helps keep your screen private without you having to do anything.

What do you need for it to work?

  • Your laptop must have special hardware called a presence sensor (also known as Human Presence Detection or HPD).

  • You’ll find this tech in newer laptops from brands using Qualcomm, AMD, or Intel chips.

  • Not sure if your laptop has it? You can check in Settings > System > Power & battery.

Microsoft hasn’t officially launched this feature yet, but it has shown up in test versions of Windows 11—so it could be coming soon.

Why does this matter?Privacy is more important than ever. This smart feature could help protect your screen from unwanted eyes—making Windows 11 not just more powerful, but more secure and personal.

Would this make you feel safer when working in public?
